Look Who’s Turning 50 This Month, Plus Other Big March Birthdays

Five notable women reach milestone birthdays this month--three of them hitting the golden age of 50. Let's hear it for these multi-talented stars.

Rachel Weisz, 50, March 7th

We haven’t seen Rachel Weisz in a major film since The Favourite, but oh what a scrumptious part that was. As Lady Sarah, she was wicked, flirtatious, sorrowful, and defiant in the course of two hours, and the role won Weisz an Academy Award nomination.

We aren’t sure what she’s been up to since then, but we imagine she’s been busy raising her two kids and enjoying life as Bond’s girl, a.k.a Daniel Craig’s wife. We wish her a happy 50th and urge her to get back on the screen soon.

Eva Longoria, 45, March 15th

Welcome to the NextTribe stage of life, Eva Longoria! She will always be fixed in our minds as Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives. But she has done so much beyond that guilty-pleasure series. She has opened a restaurant, written a cookbook, and directed episodes of the series Blackish.

In 2013, she earned her master’s degree in Chicano studies, and has been super active in Latino and immigration causes. In many other ways, she’s been a model philanthropist, lending her efforts to Make a Wish, Project HOME, St. Jude’s Hospital, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. With her impressive, multi-faceted career so far, we can hardly wait to see what her NextTribe years look like.

Queen Latifah, 50, March 18th

Another new member of the 50 Club is Dana Elaine Owens, better known as Queen Latifah. She gained national recognition for her role as Matron “Mama” Morton in the 2002 film version of Chicago, but she was already well-known to hip hop fans. She rapped about issues she faced as a black woman, including domestic violence and harassment on the streets and has sold two million records around the world. She’s also won or been nominated for a slew of acting awards (including an Oscar), and in our eyes she’s the OG bad-ass.

Mariah Carey, 50, March 27th

Mariah Carey is the third star to reach the half-century mark this month. One of the best-selling singers of all time, she has a five-octave range and has mastered that trick of covering almost all of them on one syllable. It makes our throat hurt just thinking about it, but she does it with ease. She has more albums and awards than we could ever keep track of. We celebrate her angelic voice and all the good work she has done for charities from The Fresh Air Fund to PETA to Hurricane Katrina relief. Happy day, you elusive chanteuse.

Annabella Sciorra, 60, March 29th

celebrity birthdays in March

We hope that Annabella Sciorra will be celebrating her 60th birthday, filled with at least a modicum of closure and relief that Harvey Weinstein was convicted on at least two counts in his recent trial. Sciorra testified at the trial that Weinstein had raped her in her apartment 25 years ago.

We want to salute her as this 1960 baby turns 60 for her acting (most memorably in The Sopranos and In the Hand That Rocks the Cradle), her courage, and her determination to fight for women to be heard. After the Weinstein verdict, she said, “While we hope for continued righteous outcomes that bring absolute justice, we can never regret breaking the silence.” Thank you Annabella Sciorra!
