There will be no Samantha, which is a shame since she was always the most outrageous and outspoken, but three of the original stars of Sex and the City will be returning for a new version of the series called And Just Like That…. At the center, we’ll still have Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), flanked by two of her BFFs, Charlotte (Kristen Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).

The announcement of this next chapter came via Instagram. Parker, 55, posted a teaser video of iconic New York City scenes with the caption, “I couldn’t help but wonder … where are they now? X, SJ.”

An HBO Max press release said the series will follow the trio as “they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”

And as all of us know, some friendships don’t make it through the test of time. In this case, Samantha dumped the group. Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha, has indicated on multiple occasions that she wants nothing to do with any more iterations of the franchise. Cattrall has openly feuded with Parker. In 2017, Cattrall said she wouldn’t star in a third Sex and the City movie and added that she and her castmates “were never friends,” simply colleagues.

Sex and the City Keeps Going…And Going

“I grew up with these characters,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, “and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor, and the beloved city that has always defined them.”

For six seasons, the world followed the four single women of Sex and the City as they drank Cosmos and dated in New York. The series also spawned feature films in 2008 and 2010 as well as a two-season prequel series on The CW, The Carrie Diaries.

In a 2018 interview, Parker told The Hollywood Reporter how she thought Carrie would react to the #MeToo movement. “It’s hard to imagine her not wanting to write about it, not wanting to talk about it and not having an opinion,” she said at the time. “It would be rich territory for her to explore.”
