Have you entered “Otherhood” yet? That’s a phrase that writer and director Cindy Chupack coined to describe the years after active-duty parenting. You may no longer feel like a Mother; you’re more like an Other. What do you do with this new status, this alien landscape?
This is the issue explored by Chupack’s film of that same clever, M-less name. “I’d love to get the conversation going around how women would like to celebrate, enjoy, and make the most of Otherhood,” she told NextTribe. “What might need to change in their lives, what are they excited about doing in this next phase, and who are the friends they can count on for support and encouragement and fun?”
Tune in via Facebook Live on Tuesday, Aug. 6th at 10:30 pm eastern for a Q&A session with director Cindy Chupack. Get your questions ready.
NextTribe is traveling the same terrain of course. In fact, Chupack spoke at our Out Loud event in May and she made sure we got a copy of the film to preview. We can assure you that it walks a very difficult line: It is utterly hilarious yet touching in a believable, not cloying way.
We want to celebrate Chupack’s achievement as a first time film director and to bring our readers together to watch the film with friends–which is how it will be most appreciated.
So we’re organizing watch parties for the film across the country. Gather with two or more friends (more is better) and watch the film on Netflix on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 6th, and you’ll be part of the watch-party fun. Plus, you can win some nice prizes just for having a great party.
How to Win a Watch Party Prize
You need to do 2 things to be eligible for our grand prize, chosen at random: a $400 gift certificate to a favorite restaurant in your town so you can continue the fun with your group at a later date. We will also be selecting 10 runner-up prizes: Netflix gift cards.
- Fill out the Watch Party registration form here, so we know where you’ll be gathering and how to contact you if you win. When you register we’ll send you some fun ideas for making the party even more fab.
- Post a photo of your watch party on your own Facebook or Instagram feed between 5 p.m and 11 p.m. eastern on Tuesday, Aug 6th. You must use the hashtag: #NextTribeLovesOtherhood.
