This week our Featured Reader is Karen Schrimper from Mint Hill, NC. Welcome Karen!
What are you passionate about right now?
Rediscovery. For the first time in 28 years I’m not part of a “we.” I’m focused on falling in love with myself.
What’s the most important thing you do every day?
Washing my face, for several reasons. The routine before I go to bed let’s me clear my mind. It’s also important to me to care for my skin.
Who do you think is the best role model for Aging Boldly and why?
Dolly Parton. She is unapologetic. Aging boldly to some may mean never coloring your hair. To others it means you aren’t going to allow something as mundane as the year you were born define you or slow you down. She makes no excuses and I love her for it.
What’s your personal motto for Aging Boldly?
Own it. Love yourself.
What movie/book/TV show are you loving now?
What countries are on your bucket list?
Japan, South Africa, Argentina.
If you could live any where in the world where would it be?
I’d move back to Hawaii.
How do you cope with the current craziness in our political world?
By voting and making sure my kids know that they are only entitled to an opinion if they vote.
What will you be doing in 10 years?
In 10 years and five months I’ll be 60 and plan on retiring. I’m not sure what that looks like right now. I’m not sure what tomorrow looks like right now. But I’m ok with that.
What did we forget to ask you?
My cats! I have two Bengal cats. I talk to them and they talk to me. I suppose a cat lady is a bit of a cliche, but I own it.
Anything else you want us to know?
Life throws curve balls all the time. I didn’t plan on turning 50 alone, but I’m not afraid. I’m more confident than I’ve ever been before. I feel more beautiful now than I ever have before. I can strut a bikini like nobody’s business. And I’m getting to know myself all over again. It’s scary but I’m a strong woman. I’m not afraid to fall. I know how to pick myself up. I will not coast. I intend to blaze my way through life.
