You may well have seen photos of Iris Apfel, now 96, over the years, and her remarkable, unabashed sense of style. The enormous eyeglasses, the bright red lips, the crazy-color clothes and the sky-high piles of fun jewelry. Talk about Aging Boldly!

She has serious design chops, having launched and run a textile business with her late husband, and having been involved in restoration projects at the White House for decades. But it’s this New Yorker’s wild style that earned her mega-fame, including a retrospective show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s famed Costume Institute, a documentary film, “Iris,” and “styled by Iris” Barbie dolls.

Women have found inspiration in her fashion sense that’s anything but retiring. Her recent book “Accidental Icon: Musings of a Geriatric Starlet” cements her status as a woman of style, wit and wisdom. One of our favorite quotes: “”You start falling apart, but you just have to buck up and paste yourself together. You may not like getting older, but what’s the alternative? You’re here. Embrace it.” Well said!
