We love Crystal Gerard’s story. She’s been a hairstylist for over 25 years at top NYC beauty establishments, such as Bumble & Bumble and Arrojo Studio. After her mom had a stroke at the age of 90, she went to stay with her. Her mother was unable to use her left hand to wash and manage her hair, so of course Crystal stepped in. She washed and cut it and put it up in rollers. That’s when she had her epiphany. ” I saw how happy someone’s spirit becomes after they get a little bit of beauty. It’s an instant lift for them and they appreciate it so much,” says Crystal.
Now back in Manhattan, Crystal is working with hospitals to provide haircare for those who can’t do it themselves and can’t get to a salon. “I’m also very experienced in cutting wigs for people with cancer or alopecia,” she says.
We applaud Crystal for using her talents for such a good cause. Such a NextTribe thing to do!
