We’re excited to introduce you to Featured Reader Cheryl Sattler from Quincy, Florida.
Law student and education consultant.
What are you passionate about right now?
I have worked in education for more than 20 years. A few years back, I got fed up with older white men patting me on the head (well, almost) and telling me thanks for my advice, but they’d call the lawyer. I decided what the heck, I would BE that lawyer. So I researched law programs and went back to school, 23 years after my last degree. After three years of truly horrible work (with occasional bright spots), I am a year from graduation and taking the California bar. So I’m passionate about helping children, and about finding a new way to do that with my new skills. And I can’t wait to get back into my glass studio, which has been gathering cobwebs for 3 years.
What’s the most important thing you do every day?
Anything in my garden, even if it’s just taking off a few dead leaves on the plants on the deck. And cuddling my dog, Mabel, a 14 pound bundle of joy.
Who do you think is the best role model for Aging Boldly and why?
Maggie Smith. Because she is an amazing actress who doesn’t have tons of plastic surgery. She looks her age.
What’s your personal motto for Aging Boldly?
You’re going to get older no matter what so you might as well try stuff.
What movie/book/TV show are you loving now?
I don’t get to do that with law school 🙁
What countries are on your bucket list?
Brazil; Sri Lanka; Australia; New Zealand; Namibia.
If you could live any where in the world where would it be?
How do you cope with the current craziness in our political world?
Good question! I am hoping that my law degree will help me fight back.
What will you be doing in 10 years?
I’ve always hated that question. Who knows? My life has been unpredictable. I do know that I’ll be trying to make things better – for kids, for women, for those who can’t or don’t know how to speak for themselves. As to what form that might take – well, I’ll let you know in 10 years!
What would you tell your younger self?
You won’t believe this, but you’re gonna miss that bright red hair. Also, there are enough misfits that you will find your tribe.
