A Good Day for Mistreated Women; a Bad Day for Men Named Andrew

This week we saw a reckoning for Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York and Prince Andrew, the Duke of York. To all powerful men behaving badly: Karma's a bitch.

We got a Two-for Tuesday this week. Two powerful men who should have known better got their comeuppance.

Not only did the accused sexual harasser Andrew Cuomo announce his resignation as governor of New York, but Prince Andrew was sued in federal court in New York by Virginia Giuffre, who claimed he raped and sexually abused her.

The icing on the cake is that Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will be stepping up to take Cuomo’s place.

Cuomo’s resignation came a week after a report by the state’s attorney general found that Cuomo had sexually harassed almost a dozen women, engaging in unwanted touching and making inappropriate comments. The 165-page report also found that Mr. Cuomo and his aides unlawfully retaliated against at least one of the women for making her complaints public and fostered a toxic work environment.

It became clear that Cuomo, who has served three terms, couldn’t hold on to power after President Joe Biden called for his resignation. Though Cuomo was celebrated as one of the good politicians for his attentiveness and regular press conferences during the pandemic, he couldn’t withstand the turn in public opinion. It’s good to see that bad behavior wasn’t tolerated because of Cuomo’s (former) popularity or because he’s a Democrat.

Cuomo’s resignation sends a strong signal to men that sexual harassment will not be tolerated, so check your creepiness at every turn. The icing on the cake is that Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will be stepping up to take Cuomo’s place, making her the first woman to ever lead the state.

Kathy Hochul will become the first female governor of New York.

Andrew, the Pervert Prince

Prince Andrew’s case is more disturbing. He was reportedly deeply involved in Jeffrey Epstein’s evil sex trafficking. Raping a woman who was 17 at the time is so much worse than boorish sexism.

Someone also needs to sue the prince for stupidity.

Predictably, Andrew has said he has never met Virginia Giuffre, but he has yet to denounce Epstein. Indeed, in his infamous and completely out-of-touch BBC interview in 2019, he seemed to diminish Epstein’s crimes by calling his behavior “unbecoming.”

Someone also needs to sue the prince for stupidity.

“You’d imagine the queen would still have some loyalty to him,” Smith“I can’t believe he can come back from this,” Nigel Cawthorne, the author of Prince Andrew: Epstein, Maxwell and the Palace told the New York Times. “It can’t be very nice for the queen in her remaining years to see her favored son being pilloried in this way.”

Harry and Meghan are surely looking a lot better to the Queen right now.
